The tenth installment of the highly anticipated Las Calaveras from Crowned Heads is upon us. The Las Calaveras EL 2023 is the second in the series to feature a Grade A Dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. This is the first time since 2016 this wrapper will be featured on Las Calaveras.
“We’re bringing the Broadleaf back for ’23,” commented Jon Huber, co-founder of Crowned Heads, in a recent press release. “I’ve held My Father Cigars and the Garcia family in such high regard, especially when it came to their use of Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and the resultant blend expressions.”
He went on to say, “The 2023 Las Calaveras blend has so much going on in terms of what you’d expect from a My Father Broadleaf blend, everything from pepper to chocolate to earth, all impeccably and consistently balanced. We’re also featuring a first in the 2023 Las Calaveras Sampler, as this will be the first time we’ve featured a Belicoso Fino as the sampler-exclusive vitola, and the first time we’ve produced that vitola with My Father Cigars.”
Since 2014, Las Calaveras has served as a tribute to those that have passed on in the previous year. It is intended to celebrate life and remembrance instead of a mournful symbol of death or loss. Each year, Las Calaveras’ cigar band has included the initials of four individuals who passed in the previous year, one set of initials embossed upon each of the four coins on the sides of each band.
Las Calaveras comes in 24-count boxes with three rows of eight cigars each–”8″ serving as the symbol of infinity as in everlasting life. The three rows represent the beginning, middle, and end stages of life.
The cigar will be released in three sizes: LC50, 5 x 50; LC52, 6 x 52; and LC54, 5 5/8 x 54. The sampler will include an exclusive size, a 5 1/2 x 52 Belicoso Fino. Only 1,500 boxes of each of the three vitolas were produced, with an additional 3,000 four-cigar sampler featuring one of each vitola being made. Las Calaveras EL 2023 is manufactured in Estelí, Nicaragua, by My Father Cigars. This cigar is expected to ship in June.
