New Washington Statewide Age Regstriction Effective January 1, 2020

Washington Governor Jay Inslee signed House Bill 1074. This legislation prohibits selling or giving a cigar, cigarette, cigarette paper or wrapper, tobacco in any form, or a vapor product to a person under 21 years of age. This legislation will go into effect on January 1, 2020.

Retailers will be required to display clearly visible signage concerning the prohibition of tobacco sales to persons under the age of 21. The signage will be designed by the Department of Health to read: “THE SALE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS TO PERSONS UNDER AGE 21 IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED BY STATE LAW. PHOTO ID REQUIRED UPON REQUEST.” The sign will be provided free of charge by the Liquor and Cannabis Board at a future date.
