Mississippi House Bill 253 would impose one of the most extreme smoking bans in the country. This bill goes far beyond traditional indoor smoking laws and would effectively eliminate cigar lounges and other adult-only establishments.
If passed, HB 253 would:
- Ban smoking in all indoor environments, including cigar lounges and private clubs
- Prohibit smoking in casinos and all hotel rooms
- Restrict smoking in apartment and condominium common areas
- Extend smoking bans to many outdoor areas
- Allow local governments to impose even stricter rules
Premium cigar lounges are adult-only, highly regulated businesses that serve consenting adults. HB 253 ignores this distinction and threatens small businesses and jobs across Mississippi.
