Founders Cigar Company is marking its fifth anniversary with a new limited release called The Declaration, a cigar designed to commemorate both the company’s growth since its founding in 2020 and the historical inspiration that has shaped its brand identity.
Since launching, Founders has built its portfolio around cigars named after influential figures in American history, including blends such as Franklin Connecticut, Douglass Habano, Roosevelt Maduro, Hamilton Candela, and the Signature Dual Wrap. Each cigar typically features the silhouette of the historical figure represented by the blend.
For its anniversary release, however, the company chose a different approach. Instead of highlighting a historical figure, The Declaration features the silhouette of an American eagle on the band, signaling that the cigar is a special limited release outside of the brand’s core lineup.
A Blend Inspired by American History
The concept behind the cigar draws inspiration from the Declaration of Independence, one of the defining moments in American history. The theme extends to several aspects of the release, including the tobacco selection and pricing structure.
The cigar uses a Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper, a leaf chosen not only for its bold flavor profile but also for its symbolic connection to the early history of the United States. Pennsylvania—and particularly Philadelphia—played a central role during the founding of the country as the meeting place of the Continental Congress where the Declaration of Independence was debated and adopted in 1776.
Beneath the wrapper is a Habano binder paired with Nicaraguan Seco and Criollo 98 Ligero fillers, creating a fuller-bodied blend that the company describes as its strongest cigar to date.
Produced in the Dominican Republic
The cigars are manufactured at Tabacalera Las Lavas in the Dominican Republic, working once again with master blender Luis Cuevas, whose factory produces Founders’ regular portfolio.
Unlike the company’s standard production cigars—which are typically released in a 6 x 50 Toro—The Declaration will be offered in a more refined 5 1/2 x 43 Corona format, a size chosen to distinguish the release from the core lineup and highlight the cigar as a special anniversary project.
A Limited Production Run
Production of The Declaration is limited to 250 boxes of 25 cigars, a number that also reflects the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.
The cigar carries a suggested retail price of $13.76 per cigar, referencing both the 13 original colonies and the year 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was adopted.
Shipments are expected to begin during the 2026 Premium Cigar Association Trade Show in New Orleans, giving retailers attending the show an opportunity to secure the anniversary release as it enters the market.
For Founders Cigar Company, the release represents both a reflection on the brand’s early years and a statement about the direction of the company moving forward as it continues to grow its presence among boutique premium cigar brands.
