La Aurora is preparing its annual release of two limited-production collections, with the 2026 arrival of La Aurora Preferidos Hors d’Age 2025 LE and Puro Vintage 2016 scheduled for later this month.
This year’s Hors d’Age release introduces a new size to the collection. In addition to the returning Toro, La Aurora will offer the blend in a lancero for the first time. The new format will feature a green band and packaging that distinguishes it from the Toro.
Hors d’Age 2025 LE
The La Aurora Preferidos Hors d’Age 2025 LE uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper and binder over filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Nicaragua. According to La Aurora, all of the tobacco used in the blend has been aged for at least 12 years.
The name Hors d’Age comes from a French cognac designation translating to “beyond age,” reflecting the emphasis La Aurora places on extended tobacco aging for the annual release.
“From seed to cigar, the journey for this release began 12 years ago,” said Manuel Inoa, La Aurora master blender. “Just as Hors d’Age cognac represents exceptional quality developed through time, we set out to create an annual release that reflects the highest level of quality through expert aging and blending.”
For 2025, Hors d’Age will be offered in a 5.75 x 54 Toro and a 6.875 x 40 lancero. Both will be packaged in 15-count boxes.
The lancero is a format Inoa said he has smoked personally with the blend in previous years. Its smaller ring gauge places greater emphasis on the Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper while also requiring additional precision during production.
Only 700 boxes of the Toro and 500 boxes of the lancero are being allocated to the U.S. market.
The Toro has an MSRP of $31.50 per cigar or $472.50 per box. The lancero carries an MSRP of $25 per cigar or $375 per box. Both are expected to begin reaching U.S. retailers in late October.
Puro Vintage 2016
La Aurora will also release Puro Vintage 2016, the latest edition of a collection first introduced in 2008.
Despite the name, Puro Vintage is not a Dominican puro. Instead, the series allows Inoa to work with selected tobacco crops from different countries and harvest years, with each release built around aged tobaccos selected for that particular vintage.
Puro Vintage 2016 combines an Ecuadorian Havana wrapper with a Brazilian binder and filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Nicaragua.
The cigar is offered exclusively in a 6.5 x 50/60 Salomon. Inoa said the doble figurado shape plays a significant role in how the cigar develops during the smoking experience as its ring gauge expands and contracts.
Only 700 boxes will be produced worldwide. Each box contains eight cigars and carries an MSRP of $224, or $28 per cigar.
La Aurora expects Puro Vintage 2016 to begin arriving at U.S. retailers in mid-to-late October.
