We are writing to alert you to a serious proposal in Rhode Island that could significantly impact premium cigar consumers and the local cigar retail community.
Governor Dan McKee’s FY2027 Executive Budget includes a proposal to dramatically increase the premium cigar tax by raising the per-cigar tax cap from $0.50 to $2.00. This represents a 300 percent increase on premium cigars.
The good news is that this proposal is not final. Lawmakers are still considering the budget, and consumer voices can make a real difference.
