Premium Cigar Association: How did you get started in the industry and when did you take the helm at Platinum Nova?
Leonor Abzaradel:
My journey began over 15 years ago. Wanting to broaden my knowledge of the cigar industry, I started working on the retail side. Over time, I moved into managerial positions at some of the most notable cigar establishments in New York City, which allowed me to fully immerse myself in the world of premium cigars. This experience gave me a deep appreciation for the work behind every cigar, from the people in the factories to the consumers and their expectations. In 2019, I accepted the position of CEO of Platinum Nova Cigar, overseeing the day-to-day operations. What began as a challenging role for a new company evolved into steady growth, both in the United States and internationally, making Platinum Nova Cigar recognizable for its distinctive colors, packaging and commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given by someone in the industry?
Rather than one specific piece of advice from a single person, our success has been shaped by a collective mindset we embraced as a team from the very beginning: believing in ourselves, trusting the process and, most importantly, listening to the consumer.

What’s new at Platinum Nova for 2026?
Platinum Nova Cigar will be unveiling a new release at the PCA. For the first time, we will offer two different vitolas with the same blend. Beyond this release, we continue to expand internationally, strengthen relationships with retail partners and distributors, and create more in-person experiences that bring consumers closer to the brand. Everything we do remains rooted in quality, consistency and a long-term vision.

What’s been your most memorable moment during a PCA trade show?
My most memorable moments at the PCA trade show have always been about the people. Conversations with industry professionals and retailers, hearing their stories, receiving feedback and witnessing their genuine reactions when they try our cigars reinforce the trust behind this business. The PCA is not just a trade show; it’s where relationships are built, ideas are shared and the future of the industry takes shape.

What are the last two books you’ve read? What made you want to read them?
Atomic Habits by James Clear and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Atomic Habits reinforces the idea that life is not a race but a journey built on small, consistent habits that lead to personal growth. The Alchemist encourages pursuing your dreams, embracing challenges and understanding that life involves risk—lessons that closely align with building a boutique cigar company.

Bonus: Describe your ideal weekend.
For me, an ideal weekend is about slowing down. Waking up without an alarm, enjoying an espresso in the morning and spending time outdoors. If there isn’t any major event to follow, I love ending the day at home, watching movies without any rush. If the weather is nice, I also enjoy going to the beach or the park, reading a book and simply being present. Sometimes I find what Italians call dolce far niente—the sweet pleasure of doing nothing. It’s not always easy to recognize those moments, but when they arrive, they become a gift, a gentle reminder of the beauty found in simplicity.
