Foundation Cigar Company and The Tobacconist of Greenwich have collaborated on Ceremony, a limited-edition premium cigar released exclusively through the Connecticut retailer as part of its Rare Finds Collection.
More than two years in development, Ceremony is limited to 400 boxes of 14 cigars and began shipping Sept. 21. The cigar carries an MSRP of $35 per cigar and $490 per box.
Ceremony is a 5 3/4 x 56 soft box-pressed perfecto featuring a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. The companies describe the cigar as medium to full in strength.
The project draws inspiration from the history of tobacco cultivation in the Connecticut River Valley and its role among Indigenous peoples in the region. Foundation Cigar Company founder Nicholas Melillo, whose company is headquartered in Connecticut, worked with The Tobacconist of Greenwich on the project.
“Ceremony has been two years in development, and every one of those days was worth it,” Melillo said. “The Connecticut River Valley is sacred ground for tobacco—for this craft.”
The release is also distinguished by its presentation. Each 14-count collection comes in a handcrafted leather presentation box featuring embossed and laced details and a medallion bearing The Tobacconist of Greenwich’s emblem.
Ceremony joins The Tobacconist of Greenwich’s Rare Finds Collection, a series of exclusive cigar collaborations offered by the retailer.
“Ceremony is the kind of collaboration that defines what the Rare Finds program exists to do,” said Michael Cafagno, owner and CEO of The Tobacconist of Greenwich. “The packaging alone tells a story. The cigar finishes it.”
Dylan Austin, president and COO of The Tobacconist of Greenwich, said the project reflects the type of partnerships the retailer aims to build through the Rare Finds program.
Foundation Cigar Company was founded by Melillo in 2015. Its portfolio includes The Wise Man, The Tabernacle, Highclere Castle, Charter Oak, Aksum, Olmec and The Upsetters.
