Knoxville City Council is considering a proposal that would ban smoking in all bars across the city.
For premium cigar retailers and cigar-friendly establishments, this is not a minor policy change. It directly impacts adult-only businesses that already operate with strict age verification, controlled environments, and a customer base that knowingly chooses to participate.
Many of these establishments are small, locally owned businesses that contribute to Knoxville’s economy, employ local residents, and create spaces designed for only adult consumers. A blanket ban would remove a core component of their business model overnight, with no accommodation for their unique role in the market.
This proposal does not distinguish between general public venues and age-restricted establishments. It applies the same rule across the board, regardless of whether the environment is already limited to informed, consenting adults.
PCA members and supporters in Knoxville should make their voices heard. Contact your City Council members and respectfully urge them to oppose a one-size-fits-all smoking ban and instead consider policies that preserve the ability of adult-only businesses to operate responsibly.
