Connecticut lawmakers are considering Raised Bill 5228, which would restrict tobacco retailers by imposing two caps:
- No more than 25% of retail floor space dedicated to taxed tobacco products.
- No more than 50% of annual gross sales from taxed tobacco products.
For premium cigar retailers, cigar sales, and humidor space are our core business. These limits are not workable for specialty shops and would effectively block cigar retailers from operating after October 1, 2026.
This bill threatens small, locally owned businesses with arbitrary restrictions that do not reflect how specialty retail operates.
Please contact your State Senator and Representative today and urge them to oppose Raised Bill 5228 and reject these measures.
