Premium Cigar Association (PCA): What’s the biggest challenge you face upholding the values and history of six generations in tobacco?
Nirka Reyes Estrella:
Maintaining tradition whilst innovating and including my personal touch. I’ve always been very respectful of my origins. To honor not only my family’s heritage, but our country’s heritage in everything we do, is the best motivation. At the same time, I take nothing for granted, and  immerse myself in every single process with the passion of a first-timer.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received from someone in the industry?
I was told to be honest, intentional and committed so my work would speak for itself. And to always, always help, as much as I can and sometimes even if I can’t. It’s from my dad, and I’m so grateful to have a father who, instead of teaching me “the ways of the world” or how to gain more profit, he taught me values, not only with words but most importantly with actions.

What’s new in 2025 for De Los Reyes and Saga?
We are holding off on a couple of blends, but at the PCA show we will have available this year’s Don Julio special edition, Year of the Snake and the Limited Edition 2024 of the Saga Golden Age Yamasá.

What is the state of Dominican tobacco today? And How has it changed since your father’s generation?
The state of Dominican tobacco today is excellent, with more diversity than ever, but not without its challenges. A unique advantage is that Dominican tobacco has been protected by law as national cultural heritage for three years now, which is of great importance. Our main activities still revolve around the pursuit of quality, personal relationships and, as my father loves to say, “making ordinary days extraordinary with our cigars.” The world of cigars nowadays is more and more challenged by the complexity of modernity, and the ever-further reaching new markets and regulations.

What do you like to do outside the world of tobacco? What takes your mind off work?
Motherhood has changed that for me. It’s made me appreciate and dedicate myself fully in what I’m doing at the moment. So when I’m off work, I’m mostly off. I truly love and enjoy being a mom to my almost 2-year-old. He’s so full of joy and it’s just wonderful to see life through his eyes. Spending quality time with my family and friends. Reading has always been a constant love in my life, and praying throughout the day and going to church keeps me serene and present and allows me to be grateful.

BONUS: If you could only listen to three musicians for the rest of your life, who would they be?
Only three!! I don’t think that’s nearly enough …. But if I have to pick (and I can’t resist to make it four), it would be, in no particular order, Juan Luis Guerra, Paola Pablo, Yanni and Carlos Vives.
