J.C. Newman Cigar Co. has begun shipping Brick House The Commodore Maduro, a new 5.5 x 70 addition to the company’s Brick House Maduro lineup.
The new vitola is available in boxes of 25 and humidor bags containing five cigars. It carries a suggested retail price of $11.50.
According to J.C. Newman, The Commodore Maduro is intended to build on the popularity of the Brick House Mighty Mighty, a 6.25 x 60 vitola that remains one of the brand’s best-selling formats. The company says it expects to produce approximately 1.1 million Mighty Mighty cigars this year.
“The Commodore is Mighty Mighty’s big brother,” said Drew Newman, fourth-generation owner of J.C. Newman Cigar Co., in a press release. “It recognizes the popularity of larger ring gauge cigars, but its standard 5.5-inch length makes it more approachable than the typical 7 x 70.”
Like the rest of the Brick House Maduro line, The Commodore features a Brazilian Arapiraca maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. The cigars are produced at J.C. Newman’s PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
The Brick House brand traces its origins to company founder Julius C. Newman, who was born in 1875 in the only brick house in his Austrian-Hungarian village. The brand name was later created to commemorate the family home after Newman established his cigar company in the United States. While Brick House was originally blended as a Cuban puro, today’s cigars are made in Nicaragua.
The company describes The Commodore Maduro as a full-flavored cigar designed to appeal to smokers seeking a larger ring gauge in a shorter format.
Brick House has earned multiple accolades from Cigar Aficionado, including a 93-point rating and four appearances on the publication’s Top 25 Cigars of the Year, most recently as the No. 10 Cigar of 2024.
