La Aurora is set to bring back one of its most distinctive annual releases with the return of the Preferido Double Barrel-Aged Tubos, scheduled to debut at the 2026 Premium Cigar Association Trade Show (PCA26) in New Orleans.

Positioned at the intersection of craftsmanship and experimentation, the release highlights one of the brand’s most unique production methods—double barrel-aging, a process that continues to set it apart within the premium cigar category.

A Process Defined by Time and Restraint
At the core of the Preferido Double Barrel-Aged Tubos is a multi-stage aging process that begins long before the cigar is rolled.

Select tobaccos—sourced from the upper primings of the plant—are first aged in wooden barrels, allowing the leaf to develop depth and character. Once rolled into the brand’s signature perfecto format, the cigars undergo a second aging phase inside barrels previously used for aged rum.

Rather than infusing flavor, this method allows the cigars to absorb subtle environmental influences from the barrels, resulting in nuanced notes shaped by oak, spice, and natural sweetness. The result is a profile that emphasizes balance and complexity without overpowering the underlying tobacco.

A Blend Built for Complexity
The blend reflects La Aurora’s multi-origin approach, combining:

  • Filler: Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Pennsylvania
  • Binder: Pennsylvania Broadleaf
  • Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano

Together, these components create a cigar designed to deliver a layered, full-bodied experience while maintaining the refinement expected from the Preferidos line.

Limited Production, Premium Positioning
The Preferido Double Barrel-Aged Tubos will be released in boxes of eight aluminum tubes, with total production limited to 750 boxes.

With an MSRP of $228 per box ($28.50 per cigar), the product is positioned firmly within the super-premium segment, appealing to collectors and experienced smokers seeking distinctive aging techniques and limited availability.

For retailers, the combination of unique production, recognizable branding, and annual release cadence provides a clear opportunity to generate interest among customers looking for special occasion cigars or curated humidor additions.

PCA 2026 Debut and Availability
The release will officially debut at PCA26, with cigars expected to begin shipping in April 2026.

As La Aurora continues to expand its presence at the trade show—with additional releases and experiential programming—the Double Barrel-Aged Tubos stand out as a product that blends tradition with innovation.

For PCA members, it represents a category that continues to gain traction: cigars defined not just by blend, but by process, patience, and the story behind how they are made.
