Question: Why did you run for the board and what do you hope to achieve while serving your term?
“After being in the industry for almost two decades, I really wanted to give back to the industry and offer my philosophies and approach to the Premium Cigar Association. I truly have a love and passion for this industry and over the course of my retail experience I have stirred the pot and have tried to adjust the paradigm of the old school cigar experience. I want to respect and honor the time-honored traditions and rituals of the cigar industry, and bring to light new opportunities that can help modernize the customer experience. The Premium Cigar Association is the foundation and voice of this industry and it has been incredibly successful in all of its goals and movements. I look forward to supporting the cause and to becoming an active member during my term.” – Paul Copeland, Shore Things Cigars, Watersound, Florida
“I was honored when a fellow retailer and current board member recommended me for the PCA Board. After spending time learning more about the direction of the board and the work being done, it became clear this was an opportunity where I could contribute in a meaningful way and help continue building something positive for the industry.
“My goal would be to build on the positive momentum the current board members have created while bringing fresh ideas and creativity that help retailers and manufacturers come together to protect the industry we all love. I also want to help strengthen the connection between retailers and manufacturers in ways that mutually benefit one another and ultimately allow us to accomplish more together.” – Brandon Hayes, Renegade Cigars, Richardson, Texas
“I chose to run for a second term because the Association’s work is never done and I truly appreciate being a part of it. Every store and lounge is different, and we need a variety of voices to represent the work we do and advocate for the investments that will protect and strengthen our industry. My first term reinforced the importance of collaboration and thoughtful leadership, and I’m proud of what we accomplished together. With the support of fellow board members and PCA leadership, we launched Women of PCA, funded grants to support state advocacy, and built partnerships with companies that truly support our industry—to name just a few initiatives.
“In a second term, I hope to continue strengthening member engagement, encouraging fresh ideas and helping ensure our association remains relevant and responsive in an evolving retail and legislative landscape. I also look forward to supporting initiatives that provide the education and resources tobacconists need to succeed for years to come.” – Teresa Wessling, Georgetown Tobacco, Washington, D.C. (Second Term)
“I ran for the board because after 30 years in the business and successfully leading an effort to establish a state tax cap, I had something to contribute to our industry. I’ll be working to help people with tax issues and continue to help improve the trade show while also encouraging all retailers to become PCA members.” – Michael Frey, CigarBox, Las Vegas, Nevada
“I think there is something honorable about serving, whether it be in your community or industry. There is always so much going on that I believe it is our responsibility to speak up and do what we are able to do in order to take action.” – Christian Eiroa, C.L.E. Cigar Company, Miami, Florida (Second Term)
