Altadis U.S.A. is celebrating the 180th anniversary of the H. Upmann cigar brand. To celebrate this milestone, the company will release the limited-edition H. Upmann 180th Anniversary cigar. The cigar will be presented in a 7 x 50 Churchill size and packaged in 10-count boxes. Only 5,000 boxes of this cigar will be released.
H. Upmann began when German banker Herman Upmann moved to Havana, Cuba, to open a branch for this family bank. He created a small batch of cigars for his best clients, and his passion for tobacco grew stronger as time went on. His passion led him and his younger brother, August, to develop their own brand in 1844, which came to be known as H. Upmann. The H. Upmann 180th Anniversary cigar is a testament to the H. Upmann brothers’ commitment to the craft of cigars.
The H. Upmann 180th Anniversary is a Nicaraguan blend created in collaboration between Rafael Nodal and AJ Fernandez. It uses a medio tiempo wrapper from a hybrid seed that underwent an enhanced fermentation process. This helped create a blend that has flavor and multidimensional complexity.
“We are proud to pay tribute to the 180th Anniversary of the H. Upmann brand with this exceptional cigar. The blend features a complex variety of Nicaraguan tobaccos from different regions, providing an array of flavor nuances and aromas,” commented Rafael Nodal, Tabacalera USA’s head of product capability.
In addition to the cigar, Altadis U.S.A. will also be releasing 180 special-edition, numbered humidors. Each will contain 50 exclusive cigars in a 6 x 50 Toro size. At the PCA24 trade show, Altadis U.S.A. will feature Wild Hats, a luxury bespoke hat maker creating a commemorative H. Upmann 180th Anniversary fedora-style hat. A limited number of these hats have been produced and will be presented within Altadis U.S.A.”s booth (#7079). The Wild Hats team will be making these hats within the booth.
The H. Upmann 180th Anniversary cigar will have a suggested retail price of $22.50 per cigar before applicable taxes. Each humidor will have a suggested retail price of $1,500.
