Don Doroteo Cigars is set to release its limited edition El Alcalde at the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA24) trade show in Las Vegas, on March 22-25, 2024.
El Alcalde, which translates to “The Mayor,” pays homage to the Doroteo family patriarch, Doroteo Fermin Delgado. He came from humble beginnings as a young tobacco farmer and eventually became the mayor of his city. Delgado grew up on a farm where he learned about tobacco from his father, Marcos. When his father passed away, Delgado continued to work and save money, which allowed him to purchase plots of land. Over the years, he owned a total of 84 acres.
La Aurora took notice of Delgado’s tobacco and soon became his exclusive buyer. Doroteo became the leader of his community and his popularity took him to the mayorship of his small town in 1969.
In a press release, Juan Lugo, founder of Don Doroteo Cigars, commented: “My grandfather and his example will always be a guiding light for me. Coming from poverty and with little education, he was able to become a respected tobacco grower, and a leader within his community. This cigar is in honor of his accomplishments. El Alcalde is a blend that has gone through extensive aging (15 years), and we are confident that it will be well received.”
The Don Doroteo El Alcalde has a Sumatra-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador, an Ecuadoran Sumatra binder, and filler tobacco from Brazil and the Dominican Republic’s Cibao Region. This cigar has been extensively aged–the cigars were rolled in 2008 and have been aging within La Aurora’s factory in the Dominican Republic ever since. The blend is described as being medium to full in strength and full of flavor. You can expect nutty flavors, sweet berries, floral tones, and hints of coffee beans and spice from the cigar.
El Alcalde will be presented in just one size–a Belicoso measuring 6 1/4 x 52. This cigar will come in 5-count boxes with each cigar having a suggested retail price of $29.75.
